SMMT Quality Management (SQM) (an IATF recognised training organisation) provide IATF 16949 3rd Party Certification Body Auditor Training and Evaluation on behalf of the IATF.
Who can attend?
To attend this course candidates must be sponsored by an IATF Approved Certification Body, a list can be found on the IATF Global Oversight website, and meet the requirements set out in the Rules for Achieving and Maintaining IATF Recognition (Rules 6th edition) section 4.2 or 4.2.1, including any Sanctioned Interpretations (SIs).
Approval
Prior to being accepted onto the Live Virtual Training course, candidates must be approved by the IATF approved training organisation against section 4.2 / 4.2.1 of the Rules. To apply, candidates must complete and submit the Application Form Part 1.
Pre-Study
Once approved, candidates will be given an access to the Auditor Development Platform where mandatory Pre-study modules have to be completed.
Applying for the Live Virtual Training Course
Following completion of the ADP Mandatory Pre-study modules, candidates can apply to attend the Live Virtual training.
The SQM Training is delivered in English. It is important that candidates are confident in their English language skills to fully engage and participate in the Training. Other IATF Training Organisations offer this training in other languages, a list of these can be found here – https://www.iatfglobaloversight.org/training/

The New Auditor Live Virtual Training is a 4 day event delivered via Zoom, comprising of individual and group exercises, quizzes, and homework activities. Please note that the training course does not go through the IATF 16949 standard or cover the automotive core tools in detail. Further training for Core Tools can be found here.
Candidates can apply for the Live Virtual Training by completing and submitting the Application Form Part 2 and the Payment Form including copies of the Certificates from the ADP Pre-study modules. A Joining Letter will be provided on approval.
Auditor Evaluation
Auditor Evaluation will be undertaken through the Auditor Development platform (ADP) at a Live Virtual Proctor Event.
Successful candidates will receive an IATF 16949 3rd Party Auditor Certificate and will be added to the IATF Database.
Re-takes
If a candidate does not pass, they will have a maximum of four retakes available. Please refer to this document for more details.
Qualification must be achieved within 12 months of the initial evaluation. Failure to achieve qualification within 12 months of the initial evaluation will require the candidate to re-apply as a new auditor candidate according to IATF Rules 6th 4.2.1.
