International Automotive Task Force (IATF)
The IATF is the global benchmark for automotive quality management with the aim of promoting consistent, high-quality performance throughout the automotive supply chain. Formed through a collaboration between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), National Automotive Industry Associations, Certified Organizations, Certification Bodies and IATF Oversight Offices. The IATF developed IATF 16949, a Quality Management System Standard, together with a 3rd party certification scheme.

IATF Oversight
IATF has established five IATF Oversight Offices to provide both administrative and operational control over the IATF certification scheme.
The IATF Oversight Offices are responsible for management of the scheme including contracting with Certification Bodies.

SMMT IATF Oversight Office


The SMMT IATF Oversight Office has a number of responsibilities, which include:
- Participating in IATF committees and supporting IATF initiatives
- Maintaining ongoing engagement with the automotive industry to ensure the scheme remains relevant and effectively serves its intended purpose
- Processing Certification Body applications for achieving IATF recognition
- Working with SMMT certification bodies to ensure consistency in the application of the IATF Certification scheme through monitoring activities including regular office assessments and witness audits
- Providing direction and guidance to SMMT reporting certification bodies through regular communications to ensure they are informed and compliant
- Working closely with SMMT reporting certification bodies to develop their resources through training and development
- Applying a consistent and effective problem solving approach to eliminate risks in the certification process
- Maintaining IATF databases, which support the monitoring and control of the IATF 16949 certification scheme
- Managing complaints to uphold the integrity of the certification scheme
- Working closely with the SQM training organisation in the development and roll out of the IATF auditor training and qualification process
- Working with the SQM publications department to make the IATF publications available
