What’s changing in VDA 19.1 Inspection for Technical Cleanliness? 

The upcoming release of the 3^rd edition of VDA 19.1 introduces several important updates by strengthening the robustness and consistency of analysis methods. 

The core principles remain unchanged, the focus has shifted towards clearer standardisation of particle extraction methods and verification practices. 

 Key Updates: 

• Minimum requirements for verification of cleanliness specifications. A clearer framework is introduced for supplier-customer agreements, removing restrictions on specific methods while ensuring consistency and comparability of results, when the standard methods of inspection cannot be applied. 

• Enhancements to Liquid Extraction Methods: Introduction of low-pressure rinsing and defined start parameter adjustments for liquid extraction processes (for big components which require big extraction liquid volume) 

• Ultrasonic Extraction – Noise requirements: New requirements for noise levels in ultrasonic baths and defined expectations for measurement and monitoring 

• New Dry Extraction Methods Introduced: Brush-vacuuming method and Stamp test method 

These additions expand flexibility while maintaining control over repeatability and reliability. 

The majority of updates are concentrated in Chapter 8, covering: 

• Gravimetric analysis 

• Light-optical particle analysis 

• SEM/EDX analysis

With the release of the new edition, SQM will begin offering:
